How do dental implants work?

Surprisingly, many patients aren’t aware that their natural teeth consist of two parts: the crown, which is the visible portion, and the root, which is hidden underneath the gums. While all tooth replacement treatment options replace the crown portion well enough, only dental implants replicate the root as well, and for good reason – without a new root in place, the jawbone can begin to deteriorate, leading to potential oral health problems in the future. When receiving a dental implant, you’ll first need to undergo a surgical procedure where a titanium implant (the new “root”) will be precisely placed in the open socket. Then, once an appropriate amount of time has passed for the area to heal, your new tooth will be completed with an all-ceramic, customized restoration.

Then, you’ll return to our office so that we can create and place your new restoration, which we’ll painstakingly create to match your existing smile both in shape and color.
